From The Provost

I, on behalf of the Board of Postgraduate College, welcome you to this platform, it is my delight that this long desired giant stride is being recorded in the history of OAU Postgraduate College at this time. This platform is expected to bridge the information gap between postgraduate studies stakeholders and the College, irrespective of location by providing relevant information on postgraduate studies and operations in OAU. Our vision is to build a Postgraduate College that is renowned for quality in research, ICT-based teaching and learning in an environment that promotes collaboration, individualism and innovation. In order to do this, we are committed to our mission which is to maintain a tradition of excellence in postgraduate research and scholarship, combined with up-to-date facilities and strong commitment to the pursuit of knowledge.

The Postgraduate College offers postgraduate studies in all the 13 faculties in OAU. Programmes offered include 23 Postgraduate Diplomas, 160 Masters (including professional) 93 Master of Philosophy and 100 Doctor of Philosophy degree programmes. The University admits students in both Harmattan and Rain Semesters. The University has postgraduate enrolment of over 2000 on the average per session and has produced over 20,000 alumni, who constitute many of the nation’s professionals in many disciplines. They include government officials, leading industrialists, prominent researchers and scholars in many universities. In the Postgraduate College, we promote the development of problem solving skills, individual ingenuity and collaborative efforts in an enabling environment that enhances knowledge, develops positive attitude and skills in learners irrespective of diversities.

The Postgraduate College is repositioned to meet 21st century needs through revised, functional and adaptive curricula envisioned to provide excellent teaching of innovative disciplines with emphasis on critical, analytical, reflective thinking as well as generic skills and exposure to co-curricular and hands-on activities. Focus is placed on acquiring professional experience in industries and institutions within and outside Nigeria as packaged in the institution’s split-site programme. First year fully residential programmes with emphasis on Qualitative and Quantitative Research, Communication Skills, Data Analysis, Meeting with the Supervisor, Report and Proposal Writing, Grantsmanship are incorporated into academic programmes, particularly the doctoral programme. In addition, the repositioned Postgraduate College promises timely completion of all programmes.

The College staff are prompt, courteous, dutiful and willing to attend to both staff and students on postgraduate studies-related issues in line with University regulations. The University has distinguished academic staff who are friendly, equipped with great potential and are ready to provide guidance to students during coursework and research.

To prospective students, I want to reiterate that the Postgraduate College, in OAU remains committed to quality research, linkages with industry, the development and use of problem solving oriented activities, linkages with alumni for possible scholarship, student welfare and timely completion of programmes. In line with our ICT-based teaching and learning, deploying technology fully to administrative and academic operations is priority. Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife remains one of the most sought-after, globally relevant institutions and the Postgraduate College is well positioned to guarantee satisfaction to all stakeholders.
